Just like the skin on your face, the skin on your hands will age and deteriorate with maturity and sun exposure. The skin loses its ability to produce elastin, collagen, and volume. You may begin to notice this over time on the backs of the hands, just like the face and neck area, since it is often highly exposed. As we age, the veins and bones become a little more apparent with the loss of tissue and thinning of the skin. With sun exposure, brown spots in this area can start to increase in number and in size. It is important when rejuvenating your face, neck, and décolletage area that you think about rejuvenating your hands as well.

So, what can you do for your hands? We'll answer those questions for you below:

What’s The Average Age Of A Typical Hand Rejuvenation Patient?

We would say most patients are around the 40+ age range. Brown spots and volume loss are more common with mature patients. However, this can certainly still occur to those who are younger than 40.

What Treatments Are Used To Help Rejuvenate Hands?

To start, we recommend prevention. Using a good SPF for your face, neck, décolletage, and hands are a good place to start. We recommend grabbing a bottle of medical grade SPF from SkinMedica or SPF from Dr. Dennis Gross, which we carry both at either of our locations.

Let's talk treatment options. There are multiple treatments that can be used to rejuvenate the hands. If a patient is concerned about volume loss or prominent veins/bony areas on the backs of the hands, we can use a dermal filler that is injected into the skin. This treatment is now FDA approved for hand rejuvenation. The results are instantaneous and within minutes, the hands can appear revived, smoother, fuller, softer and more youthful.

If a patient is concerned about sunspots or brown spots, we can use a Glytone Hand Rejuvenation Peel to remove these. Sometimes one treatment does the trick but it can often require more than one.

We also can use Microneedling by the only FDA approved microneedling pen that we have here at Urban You.  This will help utilize the patient's own natural rejuventation to stimulate collagen and elasticity. This doesn't always target brown spots but it will help break up that pigment.

Any of these treatment options being combined with dermal fillers can provide really impressive results and take years off of your hands!

What’s The Downtime?

Downtime is pretty minimum with any of the treatment options. We would say the downtime is a few days to a week, especially with a peel.

How Long Does It Last?

When injected into the hands, dermal fillers can last up to a year.

With other treatment options, results can also last anywhere from a few months to years, especially if a patient practices good sun protection consistently.
